ABOUT THE INSTITUTE
Indira Gandhi Engineering College Sagar is 4th among the 5 government autonomous engineering colleges of Madhya Pradesh. This college was established by government of Madhya Pradesh in November 1981 keeping the industrial development of Bundelkhand region in view and named it Government Engineering College Sagar and the name has been modified as Indira Gandhi Engineering College Sagar later on. In 1981 the institute was started at its old site in the vicinity of Dr. Hari Singh Gour University Sagar. In December 1986 the institute was shifted to the newly constructed buildings in the land of 220 Acres area allotted by government of Madhya Pradesh in 1985 on a hillock near Baheriya Village of Sagar District, which is about 10 km away from Sagar City.
Since, November 1981 College started with an intake of 40 students in Bachelor of Engineering program anonymously, which was a five year degree course and the branches were allotted in third year. The intake was increased from 40 to 80 in the year 1983. In the year 1984-85 Civil Engineering, in 1985-86 Mechanical Engineering, in 1988-89 Electrical Engineering, in 1990-91 Electronics and Communication Engineering and in 2000 Information Technology branches were started.
Initially, the college was affiliated with Sagar University and in year 2000, it has been affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya, Bhopal, M. P. The college is recognized by All India Council for Technical Education (A I C T E) and all the courses are approved by AICTE as per mandate.
ABOUT THE CITY
Sagar is a city in the state of Madhya Pradesh in central India, situated on a spur of the Vindhya Range and 1,758 feet (536 m) above mean-sea-level. The city is around 180 kilometers northeast of state capital, Bhopal.
Its original name 'Saugor' is an amalgamation of two words: sau meaning 100 and gahr meaning forts; there were countless small-forts in this region. With time the name has changed from Saugor to Sagar. Sagar has been selected as one of the hundred Indian cities to be developed as a smart city under Smart Cities Mission.
Sagar city is a well known place recognized for its forefront approach to pursue educational excellence in Madhya Pradesh. The pioneering flagship is the first university of Madhya Pradesh and probably the only university in India established by the earnings of an individual; the great visionary Dr. Hari Singh Gour and The University named as Dr. Hari Singh Gour Central University Sagar situated in Sagar.
MANAGEMENT
IGEC Sagar has been declared autonomous by the Government of Madhya Pradesh. It is governed by a society named as “Indira Gandhi Engineering College Society” established in 1997. Its Board of Governors constitutes of chairperson: Hon’ble Minister – Technical Education and Man Power Planning Department, Government of Madhya Pradesh, Member Secretary : Principal – I.G.E.C. Sagar, Hon’ble Members : Principal Secretary – Technical Education and Man Power Planning Department , Director – Madhya Pradesh Technical Education, Vice Chancellor – Rajeev Gandhi Proudyogiki University Bhopal, Public Representatives, Recognized Industrialists, Regional Officer of AICTE and Senior Faculty Members of IGEC Sagar.
FINANCIAL RESOURSES
Institute’s principal financial resource is the fee collected from the students. Institute receives block grant for the infrastructure development time to time from the State Government. State Govt. also releases a recurring grant in the form of “Poshan Anudan” to meet its contingent expenditure. Apart from this, institute also generates its own financial resources through Testing/Consultancy Projects using lab facility and faculty expertise. The college also manages to attract funds for its developmental activities through different schemes of Govt. of India departments like MHRD, AICTE, DST etc. and Govt. of M.P. like MPCST etc. Thes College uses these grants and financial resources in the development of infrastructure including modernization of existing laboratories, establishment of new laboratories in emerging areas and removal of obsolescence. A strong infra-structure provides a solid foundation in equipping our students with better knowledge, more exposure and inculcating a confident personality to face challenges of industries and trade in India and abroad in this era of globalization.
